Dora Sarchese grows its own grapes in Caldari and Gagliarda Alta in the municipality of Ortona and in the municipality of Crecchio, all of which are located in the province of Chieti where, every year, about three million quintals of wine grapes are produced. The second of the Italian provinces with the highest wine production. It alone represent over the 80% of regional production. In the province of Chieti are produced two of the three DOC of Abruzzo : the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (an important red wine) and the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo (a white wine with a strong personality). Both deserve special attention because they reach peaks of unquestionable excellence.

Ortona has always founded a large part of its economy on production and trade of wine. in the sea in front of Ortona’s harbur have been found archaeological finds related to this sector, such as a small jug of the Italic period and an amphora vinaria of the Roman period, used for the mixing and transport of the “nectar of the gods”. It turns out that in 1800 there were produced about 80/90 thousand hectoliters of wine in the municipal territory only, when today there are 4/500 thousand: to avoid the production surplus and keep the market price high, only the residents of Ortona could plant new vineyards .

A few kilometers from the Dora Sarchese winery lies the Trabocchi’s Coast, which owes its name to the ancient fishing machine on stilts that is very common here. It is a stretch of coast famous throughout Italy for its natural beauty and for its heterogeneity: each of the Costa countries maintains its characteristics and traditions. The coast does not appear homogeneous in the various parts that compose it, but, on the contrary, changes considerably in appearance. The coastal strip makes its way between valleys and hills that, ending on the sea, give life to landscapes and natural environments of various kinds.
